Matakana Wine Trail
Take a tour of the beautiful Matakana region and visit the excellent wineries in the area - stunning views, food and wine!
Matakana is a picturesque little New Zealand town less than one hour's drive north of Auckland.
The area is well known for producing premium New Zealand wines. While traditionally a red wine growing region with notable varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinotage, Pinot Noir and Sangiovese there are now some outstanding white wines here too - especially Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
Heading North from Auckland there are some of the must-see wineries to visit:
Another highlight we recommend to slip in between wineries is Morris and James - handmade New Zealand pottery - they have a daily pottery tour at 11:30am and a little café onsite.
