Auckland Central
Auckland Dining
If you like dining alfresco - then Ponsonby, Parnell, Mission Bay and the Viaduct are good places to start. Most menus are displayed in the window so you can make your choice from a variety of cafés in easy walking distance.
Don’t miss the wonderful views from Sky Tower’s Orbit revolving restaurant, or watch the ferries come and go from Auckland’s world renowned Harbourside Seafood Bar and Grill - it’s in the historic ferry building in Quay Street. Most restaurants are open from 11am until late, with some closing on Mondays.
Auckland Shopping
The central city is a shopper’s paradise with a fascinating mix of upmarket boutique shops and small specialist stores. Work your way up Queen Street allowing plenty of time to explore the wonderful arcades and little side streets. When you reach the top of Queen Street turn right into Karangahape Road. This quirky, character street features high fashion alongside retro and street- wear styles, home décor from ethnic to kitsch and contemporary art galleries.
Weekend shopping plans should include a visit to suburban and country markets nearby. Some of the best retail therapy is in the inner suburbs, such as Parnell, Ponsonby, K’Road and Newmarket. The combination of special sale prices and favourable exchange rates for many overseas visitors, means that bargains are not too hard to find.
Central Auckland is also home to many attractions including beaches, islands, cruises and city tours which will show you the best of the best.
