The Pohutukawa Lodge offers en-suite Lodge Rooms and backpacker accommodation. It is one of the original homesteads in Tryphena, built by the Blackwell family circa 1910. The Blackwell family immigrated to New Zealand from Tipperary, Ireland. It is set in large mature gardens with magnificent 600-year-old Pohutukawa trees and beautiful rural and mountain views. We provide facilities and toys for children.
The lodge is ideally located across the road from Pah Beach, a beautiful and safe swimming beach. Next door is the Stonewall Store, Outpost Post Office, Wild Rose Cafe, Great Barrier Buses and Car Hire. There is a boat launching ramp nearby and shore based fishing around the bay.
Visit Great Barrier Island and enjoy sensational fishing. We organise winter fishing specials at great prices.
For eating and entertainment we are also the Currach Irish Pub. The Currach is an authentic traditional Irish Pub with lots of character and full of ambience. We are justifiably proud of our food. We specialise in fresh seafood. The evening specials menu changes daily according to what is freshly available. We are experienced at cooking a wide range of foods and always offer a delicious and varied menu. We have a great range of Irish music and musicians are always welcomed and encouraged to play at The Currach.
